ZIP

Definition

ZIP is a widely-used file format that supports lossless data compression. A ZIP file may contain one or more files or directories that may have been compressed. The format is often used for packaging and distributing software, documents, and other data. ZIP files can be password-protected, but this feature should not be relied upon for strong security as it may be vulnerable to certain types of attacks.

Secure Settings Example

# Securely create a ZIP archive with AES-256 encryption using the zip command
zip -e --password "strongpassword" --encrypt-method AES256 secure_archive.zip file1.txt file2.txt

Insecure Settings Example

# Insecurely create a ZIP archive without encryption
zip insecure_archive.zip file1.txt file2.txt
